Tom Nakashima Tom Nakashima is an internationally exhibited artist who has had over 30 major solo exhibitions including several in NY, Washington, and Japan. His work is held in numerous private collections as well as in over 50 public collections including The Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Smithsonian's Museum of American Art, and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. In his paintings, a changing repertoire of Japanese and Western symbols and forms embodies the elusive interplay of inner voices inherent in a bifurcated identity. A consistent presence in much work is the image of a fish that functions a a colmplex self-sign indicating that Nakashima's persona has actively entered a piece. Nakashima is a Professor Emeritus at Catholic University in Washington, DC, and is presently serving a five year term as The William S. Morris Eminent Scholar in Art at Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia. |
